Shooting (Day 3)

Today we had to shoot the police car and dinky scenes. No matter how much you plan a shoot, some problems may inevitably rise. Today I had to deal with two unfortunate situations and make quick decisions. I had cut the letters in the word 'POLICE' out from black chart papers and pasted them on the 'police car'.

However, while moving the car from one location to another, the letter 'O' fell off the car. A friend went in his car back the same route to find the cut-out but he couldn't. Subsequently, I decided to remove all the letters from the car and carry on with the shot to prevent wasting further time and decided to add an animated title during editing.

Another problem that I faced was due to the fact that I was swept away in taking care of other stuff and I forgot to double check the costume of my actor, Sheece.

We carried out the scene in which a police officer arrests him. Afterwards, I realized that he had worn a hat which he wasn't supposed to. Unfortunately, by then the real police officer, whom we had invited, had left for his duty along with the handcuffs and police cap he had given us for the scene. Thankfully, the handcuffs shot was a close-up shot so that needed not to be repeated (which wasn't even possible, now that we didn't have access to any handcuffs). However, for the other shots, I made Zahid (the actor playing the role of the police officer) wear another (backup) cap.

From this, I realized how important it was to make a checklist, not just for the planning of a shoot but also for checking everything during the shoot. I faced several problematic situations and got to deal with them and solve them. This enabled me to experience the powerful yet responsible role as a director/ producer.

Finally, Sheece left and Hassan was called along with his brother. Hassan's scenes at the house were filmed and this part of the shoot went relatively smooth.

Media Assessement

In this video, we went full swing on editing and mise-en-scene.  Action-Match and short takes prevented the video from being boring due to the limited camera angles and movements. Animation, adding layers of lower opacity, black and white tint effect, reverse and repeat effect made the music video look more interesting. Write-on and flash effects were used to introduce the title in an innovative way.  We used two studio lights, positioned at 45 degrees from the centre, with translucent white and red filters. A third light was used to form a rim of light behind the actress.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rfe_siD6IE

Inspiration for new song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPmcLzgnlo8  : This song ' BIG LOVE ' by Black-eyed Peas  is a song that tears me up every time I listen to it.  I love how in this video there isn't one singer, rather everyone is lip singing together creating a sense of unity.  This may depict that everyone who (is a victim of a school shooting or is being oppressed by the government) is going through this problem isn't alone and that everyone is filled with love and should help each other. This aspect made the video far more emotional. Since this had a strong impact on me, I wanted to use a similar idea for my music video.    ' NO T TOO LATE ' by Lemaitre'   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14Go3Jm1knc My interpretation of the song may be completely different to what it was supposed to convey. However, that's the beauty of perception. Thereafter, according to me; this song shows how in life there are difficulties. Everyone goes through har...

Dignity Day Video

Today we celebrated dignity day in our school and being the head of filmmaking society I made a video about it. The video started off with a fun fast-paced soundtrack to create suspense and interest. I added text with a simple question, in the start, to encourage engagement with the audience; which is ironic since this video can be considered a part of hot media (which demands little interaction from the viewer/user).  Two interviews were added to give the video a documentary feel.  A smooth audio transition from the diegetic and non-diegetic sounds of the interviewee and background score respectively to an 'Urdu poetry' was made. The poetry was accompanied by slow-motion shots of students and lower staff members to give a dramatic effect.   https://youtu.be/kzJ9UjASq3c
