Graphic Match ( Testing shots for Music video )

I wanted to produce a creative transition between two shots wherein the wheel of a car is graphically matched with a spinning airborne frisbee. The latter was challenging to produce and after hours of pondering I managed to construct a system that allowed the frisbee to spin in its place while it was being filmed perpendicularly.

Initially, I suspended the frisbee with the help of a green string (so that it could be easily cropped out while removing the green screen in the background of the shot in After Effects CC software). However, the frisbee barely stayed horizontal while spinning due to the limited stability provided by the thin thread.

Then, I improvised by using earphones that were taped from one end to a wooden stick. Fortunately, the frisbee started to spin perfectly.

I set up everything as shown in the pictures and video above. Another out of focus shot was taken by swinging the camera from its strap. This was then used as background footage for the frisbee shot.

Testing this was extremely useful as it helped discern some of my mistakes during pre-production and production. The stick is clearly visible through the holes in the frisbee, therefore, it must be wrapped by green tape completely so that it can be cropped out along with the green screen during editing. The frisbee can be painted black and white to be more visually similar to the wheel. Painting the frisbee another colour is also necessary because its green coloured internal wings also got keyed out with the green colour of the green screen while using keying effect in After Effects CC. Moreover, It would be better to shoot this scene indoor using Omni-lights for uniform exposure on the green screen.

Media Assessement

In this video, we went full swing on editing and mise-en-scene.  Action-Match and short takes prevented the video from being boring due to the limited camera angles and movements. Animation, adding layers of lower opacity, black and white tint effect, reverse and repeat effect made the music video look more interesting. Write-on and flash effects were used to introduce the title in an innovative way.  We used two studio lights, positioned at 45 degrees from the centre, with translucent white and red filters. A third light was used to form a rim of light behind the actress.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rfe_siD6IE

Shooting (Day 1)

Yesterday I made a list in which I organized all the scenes to be filmed according to different days. Today and tomorrow's scenes mostly included the stabilizer shots so that I could be done with using the stabilizer and return it back to the school's media lab (because other groups would want to use it as well). The numbers written in the list are the same as the numbers I wrote with the scenes drawn in the rough storyboard. After today's shoot, I ticked the scenes that were successfully filmed so that I could complete the ones that were left tomorrow. Yesterday I also made a list of all the props and people required for today's shot and messaged my actors accordingly.  I had informed my actors to arrive at 8am. This was important since today's shots were taken in a public park and an area surrounded by restaurants and cafes where it gets crowded after 11am. I stabilized the stabilizer before the actors arrived. I filmed those shots first that re...
